Fox News: It's All Obama's Fault! 01/28/2009

I had hope.  Although I never completely believed that the pundits, commentators, talking heads, idiots, and flat out haters from the dividing portion of the Republican Party would set aside their partisan biases, I had hope that they would choose their country’s prosperity over baseless political shots.

Armed with a hammer and a wedge, Fox News Channel continuously scours the earth in search of things they can blame on President Obama since 5 days in office is too soon to blame him for the Iraq War and the economy.  Those two things will be blamed on him next week.  With the Inauguration just a week old, Megyn Kelly invited Michelle Malkin on to blame Obama for the way rappers Young Jeezy and Jay-Z celebrated the departure of Bush and the entrance of Obama.

Now, because Jeezy makes a song called “My President is Black” and these two rappers use the same language everyone knows they use at shows and in their songs, Barack Obama is no longer the President he’s promised to be.  Now, he’s a guy that doesn’t want America to get beyond its race issues.  All of a sudden, Fox viewers are left feeling that Obama just got through calling the past Administration’s polices “white lies” and things will change magically because he’s Black.  And again, for the people of the country that didn’t get it during the election, his mother was White.

It’s completely legitimate to criticize Young Jeezy and Jay-Z for their manner of conveying their views.  Kelly and Malkin can be outraged at the language they choose to use and the disrespectful way they referred to President Bush.  It’s when they expect Obama’s first order of business as President to search for any and everything said about him based on his race and denounce his supporters in the rap industry that these two talking heads sound ridiculous.  This would be just as big of a waste of time if he set out to listen to and denounce everything negative that is being said about him by Americans that are angry that a “Black man” is our president.

For the people wondering what kind of example this will set for young Black Americans looking for guidance on politics the way Megyn Kelly speculated, there’s no need to worry.  First of all, people of all backgrounds listen to hip hop.  The fact that Fox painted a picture of two radical Black rappers speaking to a crowd of young, hateful, revenge-minded Black kids shows their extreme ignorance.  Jeezy and Jay-Z are not inciting their many, many White fans to have uncontrollable bouts of self hatred and dreams of an America void of White people, run by Black people, for Black people.  Young Black Americans looking for guidance on politics probably aren’t flocking to a Jay-Z show with a pen and pad.  I get the feeling they’re looking for some hot lyrics and some first-class beats.

All this Fox News conversation does is make their viewers ignore the real things Obama is working on in his first week in office, in hopes that these detractors keep their minds on racial tensions, not the betterment of the country. The way to keep America’s problem with race alive and well is to put all the blame on the other side, creating an endless, “us vs. them” scenario that Obama constantly speaks against.
