The saga of The Oakland Raiders involving someone Al Davis is displeased with has taken a curious turn after Sunday’s beating handed to the Kansas City Chiefs.  It’s well-known that the 79 year-old managing general partner of the team (lets just call him the owner) has an insatiable desire to claim two more Lombardi trophies before his time is up.  This craving is so great; he seems to have no patience or thought process when it comes to the coaches he hires and immediately fires, or the rejected players he brings into a rehab facility set up for failure.

His latest quick trigger decision of hiring the league’s youngest coach, Lane Kiffin last season has Davis ready to run the 33 year-old out of town after only one game into this young season.  The public disagreements between the coach, owner, and coaching staff’s decisions from player personnel to game plans had news conferences and headlines written waving goodbye to Kiffin’s first stint as an NFL head coach despite the result of Sunday’s match up with Kansas City.

With Raider fans seeing nothing on the football field and constant news of the battle between a grumpy old man and a petulant youngster, some began to wonder when this team would finally acquire a new persona.  Even the knife-wielding, fake gangsters in the Black Hole have begun to ask, “Can we all get along?”  But how?  Davis is the big boss; he’s Jerry Jones on steroids.  When Kiffin wants to make a move toward his idea of winning, the hand of Al Davis waits to slam on his shoulder.  What kind of offense is that?  That’s not Raider Football!  Just Win, Baby!  You’re Fired!

Yes, it’s a horrible thing to think of, let alone wish for.  With news of another hasty hiring and firing, one Raiders fan stuttered the thought I’ve assumed many probably think, “He’s been looking kind of sick for a while, when is he going to die so we can move on?”  Al Davis isn’t going anywhere.  He’s the Fidel Castro of the NFL.  The Embargo on the Success of the Raiders remains intact.

Sure, Castro delegated his duties to his little brother Raul while he tried to recover from surgery due to an acute intestinal crisis with sustained bleeding.  As newspapers and reporters held pens to paper to write the wrap up to the story of Fidel’s death, hoping Raul turns out to be a bleeding heart willing to cooperate with the U.S. and end the Embargo, Fidel crashed the party when he stood back up and proved the rumors of a terminal illness false.

Raider fans, it’s time to give up.  Hoping for this man’s death is like planning to open a new Ford dealership in Havana with factories all over the city.  The only hope left is that Davis will get lucky with a head coach that can succeed with his tyrant style and demands for Raiders football in under 2 years.  Save those Cubans for that unlikely day of terminal illness or improbable Raiders Super Bowl victory.  You do know how to preserve them for extremely long periods, right?
